Willard Boepple

BUILT AND PRINTED

May 19 – June 23, 2018
1315 MASS MoCA Way, North Adams, MA

An exhibition of new work by Willard Boepple. The artist’s reception from 5 – 7 p.m. is free and open to the public. The exhibition features Boepple’s impeccable monoprints, and his three-dimensional forms, both large and small scale. The works are on view through June 23rd.

In this exhibition, his monoprints are accompanied by larger scale floor-based sculptures and by a series of 3D printed small sculptures, a new area of exploration. To make his sculptures, he rarely works from drawings or maquettes, but draws the sculptures after they are made, as if to figure out what he has done. It was this drawing practice that led to the inquiry into 3D printing.

Sculptures by Willard Boepple at The Barn at 28 Main Street, Walpole NH

OUTDOOR SCULPTURE

Willard Boepple

On view through March, 2017
The Barn @ 28 Main Street, Walpole, NH

Willard Boepple employs rich color in his sculptural works, which hew toward the formalist approach to abstraction. The rigor of composition is a vehicle by which the artist explores the juxtaposition of line and negative space as one expressive whole: a dance of two-dimensional elements creating a dynamic and vibrant interplay, heightened by his thoughtful selection of pure color. Together, the form and color, in Boepple’s words, make the work “sing.”
